On February 28, 2025, BigCommerce will officially sunset Legacy Checkout (LCO) in order to ensure our platform complies with upcoming PCI DSS 4.0 standards. After this date, any stores still using LCO will be automatically migrated to the Optimized One-Page Checkout, BigCommerce’s most modern, performant and fully-supported checkout.
Is my store affected? What do I need to do?
Legacy Checkout has been unavailable as a checkout type option to new stores and stores using the Optimized One-Page Checkout since May 2019. If your store has been using this deprecated checkout type, you should have received several emails and control panel notifications over the last 10 months alerting you of this change, and the steps required to update your checkout.
Any remaining stores using Legacy Checkout are encouraged to self-migrate to the Optimized One-Page Checkout as soon as possible. This move should be relatively straightforward for the vast majority of stores, only requiring a simple checkout settings change in the control panel. Additional considerations for legacy payment gateways and checkout customizations.
For any stores also using a legacy payment provider that is only compatible with Legacy Checkout, you’ll first need to disable that provider before updating your checkout. See Available Payment Gateways for a list of all payment methods supported by Optimized One-Page Checkout.

Stores that have a customized Legacy Checkout may need to replicate those customizations in your store’s updated checkout. Automatic checkout migrations are coming
Any stores that have not migrated off Legacy Checkout by February 28, 2025 will be automatically migrated to the Optimized One-Page Checkout during the first week of March. This is to ensure that your store remains PCI compliant. The migration process may result in the disablement of incompatible payment providers, and the loss of legacy checkout customizations. In addition, you may need to update any third-party tracking scripts that leverage the Legacy Checkout’s order confirmation/completion page. To avoid any potential disruption to your store, we encourage you to make this update as soon as possible.
